Biography

Douglas Bynum graduated from Texas Tech University in 1999 with a Bachelor’s degree in Management, and from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 2002. He joined Cook Keith & Davis in 2017.

Between law school and joining the firm, Doug built substantial experience in transactional and general counsel work, including establishing an in-house legal department from the ground up and serving as general counsel for a telecommunications company — drafting and negotiating master services agreements, sales contracts, non-disclosure agreements, and vendor agreements with Fortune 500 companies across the telecom, IT, and financial industries.

At Cook Keith & Davis, Doug handles a broad range of matters including commercial litigation, landlord-tenant disputes, collections, breach of contract, judgment enforcement, and transactional work for businesses. He represents both nationwide commercial and residential landlords and a variety of other business clients, including medical billing companies and regional financial institutions.

Representative Cases

  • Obtained hundreds of judgments for possession throughout Texas on behalf of a nationwide residential landlord client.

  • Successfully pursued judgment and collection of unpaid invoices for a prominent Texas-based commercial glass and window provider.

  • Represented an international government client on student loan collection matters.

  • Obtained a multimillion dollar judgment for breach of a promissory note.

  • Obtained summary judgment for damages against a force majeure defense — a result that required successfully arguing that the claimed force majeure event did not legally excuse the debtor's nonperformance.

  • Represented a law firm in collecting against a former client, navigating an unexpected counterclaim for malpractice to reach a favorable outcome.

  • Represented a carpet cleaning company in post-judgment collection on a judgment previously considered uncollectible. Obtained payments to fully satisfy the judgment.

  • Established an in-house legal department from the ground up for a corporate client.
